chapter 7

After reading chapter 7, I understood the core strategy and planning that goes into the job being in public relations. Before I use to think that PR was just something to a glamorous world of parties and celebrities but as I am reading each chapter I realize that that is not the case and chapter 7 just gives a more clear understanding of this topic.

This chapter makes a person understand the necessity of practically think and practicing strategies so that it is relevant to the job that the PR department of the organization is handling.

I understood that organizational need to communicate to the public so this needs to be done in a strategic way this is done by doing a number of planned activity that is designed to achieve the organization’s goal.

Public relations should come up with a clear mission, direction, values and objectives for the organization and than work towards achieving it. If they just write a mission to look good as in organization than they are not being honest and true to their consumers. This is where the PR department comes in and works closely with the marketing group to make sure that mission is actually being believed and done.

The vision and mission is very important to the organization, the vision helps lead the organization to show what they are working to archive in the future. The mission creates a communicating bridge between the present and the future (where the company is now and where they want to be in the future).

A strategic plan is like the back bone of the PR department; it is the plan that helps PR work toward achieving a successful Champaign, advertise, press release etc. this will be successful when the strategic plan is done and the topic is researched on. This would include the background, satiation analysis, main message statement, budgeting, monitoring and finally evaluating. This process helps have a look into the situation and come up with what needs to be done. There is still working that needs to be done after making a plan they need to monitor who the work is going. For example if an organization has released an advertisement they don’t just release and do nothing they evaluate how the public is responding to the advertise, and if the public is having a very negative approach to the add the PR team need to think what they need to do at that point. This strategic plan would not only work for doing a project but would also help during a crisis management.

In conclusion I can say that this chapter helped me understand the framework of how the PR team dose their work and how they plan and achieve their stated goal.

week: 2

Public relation is such a subject that can be implied in so many areas. To be able to practice public relation professionally I think that we need some theory and history before we go into the business. Also knowing the key players who had contributed new ideas at an early stage to the PR profession would also help us understand how this profession actually came about.
What I understood was that during the 18490’s newspaper was not something that was available every morning it was a monthly thing so technology shows that they could print papers everyday journalists had to come up with good stories daily. This was hard as politics were very much control so entertainment became popular. Movies used newspaper for advertising purposes. But editorial writing came about much later. At this time around women were also becoming a much large audience so ‘a growing range of publications amide at woman’.
It wasn’t until the 1899 that when lots of ‘muck-ranking’ journalists came about; (this is the good part) they decided to expose all the corrupt businesses and politics so organizations started to think about improving their image and relationship with their public, I guess they realized if they didn’t clean up their act they would probably lose all their customers.
One more thing I learnt was the ‘Freedom of Press, and expression’ became very importance to the journalists. This thought came after WWII when people started to look into the fact of how journalists have such an important role to reporting true and honest news.
Theories are set to help us understand a subject better but yes two different heroes might be telling the same thing but mean something totally different what I learnt was that it help make a shape or pattern of layout of what pubic relation is all about and how it can be implied.
After reading the chapter I could say that there are was relations that are formed in an organization but I think the most important one would be the relationship with the public. Originations may send massages over to the public in forms of advertisements; films or even articles and the job of the PR team would be to conduct that information in an ethical and loyal basis. The job of PR officials might have evolved over time but these theories do give a better understanding of how it actually game about.
When I joined this course I did not understand why they had put journalism and public relationship together, but now it is totally makes sense! Facts and formats that we learn in both the subject can be used as interlinks that can help use understand and apply to both the subjects better.

intro:

Public relation is a very vast topic that has many definitions to it, but I think that public relation defines the profession where a group of employees communicate and plan a massage to their audiences. Public relation is used in many areas in industries such as business, education, health, government and even non-profit organizations. PR studies were just introduced in universities in the late 1960’s but it only become popular during the 1999’s.
People usually misunderstand the differences among marketing, advertising and public relation. Marketing is involved with the organization’s profit, while advertising is mainly dealing with promoting the product in newspapers, radio or television. Although there are areas that public relations have similar jobs as marketing and advertising but PR usually revolves around communicating with the media, organizing events, managing issues or even crises. Today the PR industries are growing rapidly, it can be a soul pr company or a pr team in an industry but it has become a very important area in industries today, as public relations are responsible for having a bridge of communication between the company and the public.
